All Around Leominster
An ongoing project that originally started in 1981 – documenting the people, places and culture of the town that I grew up in, and have lived in for most of my life.
Come along on the 3rd May 2025 to the opening of my exhibition ‘All Around Leominster – photos from the 1980s’.
I’ll be in the Stables Gallery (which is in the Tourist Information Centre in Corn Square) from 11am until 3pm for a chat and a catch-up of all things Leominster.
This free exhibition of 30 black and white prints reflects some of the people, places and culture of Leominster that I unwittingly captured as I taught myself how to take photos in my early 20s.
If you can’t make the opening, just pop in and have a look and leave your name and comments. I’m hoping people will tell me who I photographed, as I often had no idea who people were!
The Stables Gallery is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, unless there is a meeting being held. So if you are coming from afar, just give them a call on 01568 616460.
Ancient and Veteran Trees
‘Ancient and veteran trees are a link to our past. They form a large part of our cultural heritage and are extremely valuable for wildlife. One of the first steps in protecting an ancient or veteran tree is to help people understand the value of these trees. It is also vital to record the presence of ancient trees.’
Since February 2023 I’ve been photographing Old, Ancient and Veteran Trees in the borderland of North Herefordshire and Wales, known as the Welsh Marches, using a 6×6 square format rangefinder camera and monochrome film.
Darkness
This film is designed to reimagine some of the paintings by artist Richard Gilbert of ancient trees at Brampton Bryan in North Herefordshire. The five-minute film is best watched on a large screen in dark or dim ambient lighting conditions with the sound turned up so that the immersive atmosphere of being present in the parkland is created.
